Role Overview
The Director, Project Management Office (PMO) is a senior leadership role responsible for enterprise-wide delivery governance, portfolio execution excellence, and regulatory-aligned transformation across a complex BFSI environment – client facing and internal. This role ensures that strategic initiatives are executed with discipline, transparency, and audit-ready rigor while delivering measurable business value.
Enterprise PMO Strategy & Operating Model
• Define and lead the enterprise PMO vision, mandate, and operating model aligned to business strategy and regulatory expectations.
• Establish standardized portfolio, program, and project governance frameworks including intake, prioritization, funding alignment, stage gates, and quality controls.
• Ensure PMO practices support regulatory compliance, audit readiness, and executive decision-making.
Portfolio Governance & Strategic Alignment
• Own the enterprise change and investment portfolio across regulatory, technology, and business initiatives.
• Lead prioritization and sequencing to balance regulatory mandates, transformation efforts, and run-the-bank initiatives.
• Oversee high-risk, cross-functional programs including regulatory remediation, platform modernization, cybersecurity, data, and cloud programs.
Executive Reporting & Decision Enablement
• Deliver clear executive reporting on portfolio health, risks, financials, and benefits realization.
• Translate complex delivery data into actionable insights for senior leadership and board-level forums.
• Serve as a trusted advisor on delivery risk, sequencing trade-offs, and investment decisions.
Risk, Compliance & Audit Readiness
• Ensure compliance with BFSI regulatory requirements including OCC, FRB, FDIC, SOX, PCI, GLBA, and data privacy standards.
• Partner with Risk, Compliance, Internal Audit, and Legal teams to support exams, audits, and remediation.
• Maintain audit-ready documentation, controls evidence, and decision traceability.
PMO Organization Leadership
• Build and lead a high-performing PMO organization including portfolio and program leaders.
• Define competency models, career paths, and performance expectations.
• Foster a culture of accountability, transparency, and outcomes-focused execution.
Vendor & Partner Governance
• Provide governance oversight for system integrators and third-party delivery partners.
• Ensure vendor performance aligns with enterprise standards, regulatory expectations, and contractual obligations.
Required Qualifications
• 15+ years of progressive experience in PMO, portfolio, or program leadership within BFSI or regulated industries.
• Proven experience leading enterprise PMOs or large-scale transformation portfolios.
• Strong executive presence, communication, and stakeholder influence skills.
Preferred Qualifications
• Agile-at-scale exposure (SAFe, Scrum@Scale, LeSS).
• PMP, PgMP, SAFe, or equivalent certifications.
Tools & Technologies
• PPM Tools: Jira, Azure DevOps, MS Project, Planview, Clarity, Confluence.
• Reporting & Analytics: Power BI, Excel, executive dashboards.
• Governance Artifacts: Portfolio roadmaps, RAID logs, audit repositories.
