Research Intern at Fujitsu's Converging Technology Laboratory (Santa Clara, CA)
The Converging Technology Laboratory (CT Lab) at Fujitsu specializes in combining research in multiple technical fields to address values in the increasingly diverse society. We believe this situation requires a new approach to combine multidisciplinary knowledge including natural science, and humanities. We strive to provide an evidence-based scientific approach to shape public policies and economic activities.
We are seeking exceptional researchers to join our CT Lab at our office in Silicon Valley. This position provides an opportunity to solve social problems such as infectious diseases, environmental issues, and social costs from a data-driven approach, while effecting changes in human behavior. We value individuals with vision to pick up new knowledge, see through complex scenarios and arrive at simple, elegant yet workable solutions. Self-driven nature, creativity, communication skill, attention to details are traits of a successful researcher in this role.
The internship duration is at least of 3 month and maximum of 5 months.
Job responsibilities
- Research on topic(s) including but not limited to developing AI algorithms and models to accurately reflect social and environmental behavior. Application of novel approaches to tackle problems in the field of urban and campus environments, with emphasis on power consumption, cooling design and the dependency on weather and climate.
- Assist our research staff to procure and generate diverse data types from multi-disciplinary sources into our Social Digital Twin processing pipeline. Creatively procure and process multimodal data including tabular, time-series, geospatial, satellite imagery and video. Generative AI approaches to address geospatial data inadequacy in localized situations.
- Publish research papers in scientific journals and conferences. Showcase the work via presentation in talks, conferences, workshops, and competitions.
Requirements
- Advanced progression in a PhD program in a relevant research area in applying computer science concepts or artificial intelligence to tackle problems in the physical, social or environmental disciplines.
- Prior research lab internship experience producing measurable results such as academic paper publication
- Ability to collaborate effectively with multiple researchers, both written and verbally.
- Experience in evaluating tools and technologies in processing data from diverse but specialized fields of science.

Fujitsu salaries are aligned to the specific geographic location in which the work is primarily performed. It is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role and compensation decisions are dependent on the circumstances of each situation. The pay range for this role takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to: specific skills, qualifications, experience, and comparison to other employees already in this role. The pay range for this position is estimated at $94,080 to $134,400 USD. Additionally, this role may be eligible for a short-term incentive based on company results and individual performance.
