SAP S/4HANA Senior Consultant
Inventory Management (IM) / Warehouse Management (WM)

Role Overview
This role owns the physical and system truth of stock. Today inventory is split between the ERP and a legacy shop-floor system, movements are tracked on paper and in Excel, hold and defective stock are segregated physically with manual approvals, and shelf-life and re-inspection cycles are administered outside the system. Your mandate is to bring all of it into standard S/4HANA IM and WM with batch-level accuracy, real-time synchronization to the shop-floor execution layer, and the product-specific packing and lot-handling rules the business genuinely depends on. Lot splitting and merging, cavity-level sub-lots, FIFO picking, mixed-lot restrictions and shelf-life enforcement are core requirements, not edge cases.
Key ResponsibilitiesLead inventory and warehouse validation workshops across four plants and two divisions; produce signed-off functional design.Configure Inventory Management: plant and storage-location structure, movement types, special stocks, transfer postings, goods receipt and issue, physical inventory and cycle counting.Design stock-status handling across unrestricted, quality inspection, blocked and returns stock, and the system-driven hold process — hold reasons, re-inspection results, rework/disposal decisions and scrap — replacing paper forms and physical segregation.Configure Warehouse Management: storage types, bins and sections, putaway and picking strategies, transfer requirements and orders, and the WM–IM interface.Configure FIFO and shelf-life-driven picking and batch determination; design picking, packing and shipping for reel, loose-item, bag and emboss-tape formats with handling-unit management.Enforce product-specific packing and mixing rules in the system — notably that lots with full and partial cavity availability must not be mixed, while lots from different production dates may be.Design hand-held terminal and barcode/QR transactions for receipt, movement and picking with label printing; design real-time inventory and consumption synchronization with SAP Digital Manufacturing.■  BATCH MANAGEMENT & TRACEABILITY EXPERIENCE — REQUIRED
Hands-on Batch Management and end-to-end traceability experience is a mandatory requirement for this role. Batch, lot and cavity-level traceability sits at the center of this program; candidates without demonstrable hands-on experience in the following will not be shortlisted:Full batch management configuration: batch level, internal/external number assignment, classification and characteristics, batch status and derivation across plants.Batch determination and search strategies for goods issue, component staging, delivery and picking — FIFO, shelf-life and characteristic-driven selection with sort rules and selection classes.Batch split and merge in inventory and warehouse processes: splitting a lot by lot size and down to cavity level, combining partial quantities from different production orders into one pack without loss of lot detail, and unpack/repack cycles.Characteristic inheritance and preservation on every transformation, so production date, mold, machine, active cavity count and source survive splitting, merging and repacking.SLED management, remaining-shelf-life checks at receipt and issue, recurring inspection, and automated identification and scrapping of expired lots under a three-year shelf-life rule.Batch genealogy and end-to-end traceability across goods movements via the Batch Information Cockpit and Global Batch Traceability, including recall scoping to specific deliveries and customers.Required Qualifications8+ years SAP consulting with 5+ full-lifecycle implementations and hands-on configuration responsibility for IM and WM; at least 2 on S/4HANA (1909 or later).Deep IM configuration expertise: movement types, special stocks, stock-status handling, transfer postings, physical inventory and goods-movement design.Deep WM configuration expertise (or EWM with clear WM equivalency): storage structure, putaway and picking strategies, transfer requirements and orders.Demonstrable FIFO picking, shelf-life management and batch-determination delivery in a live production environment.Packing and shipping design with product-specific packing rules and handling-unit management.Mobile/RF and hand-held terminal transactions, barcode/QR scanning and label printing; integration of S/4HANA inventory with an MES or shop-floor execution layer.Ability to run fit/gap workshops with warehouse and production supervisors and produce auditable functional specifications and test scripts.Preferred QualificationsBilingual English/Japanese (business level); prior delivery in Japan or with Japanese manufacturing clients.SAP EWM in addition to WM, with the judgment to advise on WM-versus-EWM positioning.SAP Digital Manufacturing inventory and component-consumption integration experience.Experience replacing a legacy shop-floor inventory or WIP-tracking system with standard SAP.SAP BTP clean-core extensibility and CDS-based inventory analytics.SAP certification in S/4HANA Sourcing and Procurement or Supply Chain (Inventory / Warehouse Management).Language Requirement — Bilingual English/Japanese Preferred, Not Required
Fluent professional English is required for design documentation, deliverables and steering-committee communication. Business-level Japanese is a strong advantage — many process owners, shop-floor personnel and legacy-system custodians work primarily in Japanese, and much current-state documentation exists only in Japanese — but it is not a condition of appointment. Interpretation support, bilingual design documentation and pairing with bilingual business analysts are provided, and strong candidates will be considered regardless of Japanese-language ability.
Engagement Details
Full-time consulting assignment across the Explore, Realize and Deploy phases. Hybrid delivery with periodic on-site presence at the Japan sites during validation workshops, integration testing, cutover and hypercare. Reports to the workstream lead, working alongside client SMEs, client IT and the corporate global SAP template and clean-core governance teams.

Top 4 Job Requirements For This RoleInventory and Warehouse Management configuration depth — movement types, stock-status handling, storage structure, and putaway and picking strategies across four plants.Batch Management and end-to-end traceability — batch determination, split and merge with characteristic inheritance, SLED enforcement and batch genealogy. Required — see highlighted section below.FIFO, shelf-life and packing-rule enforcement — system-driven picking plus product-specific packing and mixing rules, replacing reliance on operator discipline.MES-integrated inventory — real-time stock and component-consumption synchronization with the shop-floor execution layer, plus hand-held terminal and barcode transactions.
