Job Title: SQA Analyst Intern

Reports To (Position): Director - QA & Project Management

                                            

SUMMARY

The SQA Analyst Intern documents and tests software applications within the Software Operations team under the supervision of their assigned mentor. Supports software planning and execution activities. Maintains Software Quality Assurance (SQA) test records ensuring alignment with design specifications and release quality standards and has an analytical approach to software validation, defect resolution, and continuous process improvement.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Essential Functions of the position include, but are not limited to;

  • Assists with the creation of test cases for the application and uses defined functional requirements. 
  • Participates in estimating test coverage needs (First Pass, Regression).
  • Executes manual & automated test scripts: Functional, Performance, Volume etc.
  • Identifies, analyzes, and documents defects, questionable functions, errors, and inconsistencies in USCAN software program functions, outputs and content. 
  • Participates in, and in some cases may perform, test plan walkthroughs to verify alignment with functional specifications, with mentor support and guidance.
  • Prepares test environments.
  • Communicates project status to their mentor, project team and management as required.

Other Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Researches software issues related to quality.
  • Adheres to company policies, safety, and quality.

QUALIFICATIONS 

Required Technical Skills

  • Novice knowledge of Windows Platform, Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Schedule, Exchange)
  • Novice knowledge of the Software Development Life Cycle
  • Novice knowledge of Retail (POS) systems is an asset
  • Novice experience in an automated environment
  • Novice experience in JavaScript and other scripting languages for Automation Testing

 

Required Soft Skills

  • Ability to work in an organized manner.
  • Ability to research and comprehend problems.
  • Novice analytical and problem resolution.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills in both French and English.
  • Detail-oriented with a strong focus on delivering high-quality results.

 

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE 

  • Enrolled in a University software Quality Assurance or Development program. 
  • Minimum 6 months programming experience (professional or academic) in a programming language (e.g., Python, C#, Java, JavaScript).
  • Exposure to the Software Development Life Cycle (professional or academic).
  • Demonstrates a curiosity and willingness to learn new tools and technologies

 

COMPUTER SKILLS 

Demonstrate ability to effectively use computers and applicable computer software. Advanced knowledge of Excel, Word, Adobe, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams and project management software required.

 

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Demonstrate, at an Intermediate level, the ability to read, comprehend, and respond appropriately through written or verbal form in both French and English when required; ability to demonstrate tactfulness when communicating, to include internal communication with staff members of all levels; ability to effectively communicate with a variety of audiences.

 

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Demonstrate ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts and interest. 

 

REASONING ABILITY

Demonstrate ability to effectively apply common sense and follow through to daily tasks; and under the guidance of their mentor, demonstrate ability to eventually work with little or no supervision; demonstrate excellent analytical skills; demonstrate ability to efficiently conduct research. Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
