Before the deal, there's the hunt
Every large outsourcing deal starts long before anyone shakes a hand. Someone has to figure out which markets are worth playing in, which companies are actually a fit, and which opportunities deserve real energy. That's what Fujitsu's Strategic Pursuits team does, a small, sharp team that takes opportunities from "interesting signal" to "signed deal."
Fujitsu is a global technology company (roughly 120,000 people worldwide, and one of the larger IT players in Belgium) running the digital infrastructure behind banks, governments and industrial companies you use every week without thinking about it. The deals we chase here are the multi-year, multi-million-euro kind.
We need help at the front end: the research, the mapping, the digging. It's where the thinking happens.
What you'll actually do
- Research markets, sectors and companies — and figure out what the data is telling us
- Hunt down target organisations: who are the suspects, who are the real prospects
- Pull scattered information from internal and external sources into something coherent
- Build market maps that people actually use to make decisions
- Help decide where the team should focus (and where it shouldn't)
- Test-drive hunting tools, market-intelligence platforms and external agencies
- Take our existing Excel files and datasets apart, then make them better
- Experiment with AI to speed up research, spot patterns and cut the grunt work
- Support deal-based marketing for strategic outsourcing opportunities
- Work with colleagues across Fujitsu departments
You'll sit on the inside of the process rather than in front of clients, which means access to the people who actually decide: your mentor, the pursuit leads, and stakeholders across sales, marketing, bid management and delivery. If you're good and you're curious, the scope grows.
Why this is worth your time
Market mapping and company research are the unglamorous parts that determine whether a pursuit succeeds. They're detailed, time-consuming, and genuinely important, which is exactly why they go to people who can think, not people who can copy-paste.
You'll walk away understanding:
- How (multi)-million-euro outsourcing opportunities get found and built
- What each stage of a strategic pursuit actually involves
- Account-based vs. deal-based marketing, and why the difference matters
- Where AI genuinely helps in business development — and where it's hype
- How a big organisation coordinates around a single opportunity
