This position requires a leadership role facing customer and act as a liaison to help through the design and engineering process for various projects, working through and qualifying network and engineering architecture and design, assist in RFP/RFI , Technical pre-sales and business development. The candidate will work with 1FA Program Managers, Delivery Teams, Maintenance Team, and other cross-functional organization and groups and be the subject matter expert internally and the technical point of contact for external customers. The candidate is expected to provide guidance to field staff during the delivery phase and work with extended Solution Architect team to resolve technical issues.

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, a closely related technical field, or a comparable amount of hands-on experience.
  • CCIE/JNCIE/CCIP/JNCIP or NOKIA certifications required or equivalent qualification or understanding of the concepts.
  • Strong working knowledge of enterprise networks and SD-WAN is preferred.
  • Strong communication skills and prior experience in presenting complex solutions to large enterprise or State and Local Government customers. 
  • Understanding of the networking concepts and guidelines behind traditional routing, switching, and system design. 
  • 10+ years experience with a deep understanding of OSI Layer 3 protocols and migration experience, with a general understanding of Layer 2 & 3 IP/MPLS technologies including but not limited to longhaul DWDM transport elements, MPLS routed traffic, fixed fiber access, and metro Ethernet services from design, through integration, test and turn up, and operations.
  • Provide internal and external guidance on the key customer network, data center infrastructure, and security issues.
  • Ideal strengths and experiences include:
  • Expert level relationship management, communications skills, and interpersonal skills to manage face to face communications on a daily basis with multiple levels of customer management and engineering staff across multiple departments within the host company in a responsible and professional fashion.
  • Customer Culture – Development/Analytics environment.  The candidate does not need code development skills but needs to be able to efficiently describe basic TCP/IP/UDP and networking behavior/fundamentals to the developers.  Must be willing to listen to customer ideas and work through potential designs that may or may not be implemented.
  • Ability to apply knowledge to real-world scenarios.
  • Ability to build internal customer labs and automate lab efforts as required, for customer network design validations and customer network deployments.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects/tasks and work calmly under pressure.
  • Self-starter, team player, personable, enthusiastic, hardworking, and enjoy interfacing with customers on a day to day basis.
  • Familiarity and understanding with RFC Standards / IETF Standards at Architect Level
  • Working Knowledge and hands-on experience with Network layer 1/2/3, MPLS/Ethernet, MPLS VPNs, VPLS, DWDM
  • Experience with Fiber Access FTTx GPON/NGPON technologies is desired with Calix/Adran/Nokia vendors.
  • Experience in design, deployment of transportation networks such as light –rail and rapid transit networks is a plus
  • Strong Experience with the BGP, RIP, IPSec, Group VPN, MPLS, DGRE, QoS, IPv6, and L7 firewall (NGEN, IPS).
  • Strong experience with Ethernet switching and spanning tree.
  • Expert level troubleshooting methodology to isolate and identify configuration, design, and software anomalies; ability to articulate findings in written and verbal communications with development level engineering staff.
  • Working experience with vertical markets, government, transportation, service providers is plus.
  • Creation of network plans, network architecture design, detail design, element configurations and scripts, and methods of procedures.
  • Expert level understanding of all protocols provisioned (8031, 8032, SONET, MPLS, EVPN, TCP/IP, IPv6, BGP, OSPF, ISIS BGP etc)
  • Familiarity with the Optical layer (including Transponders, and extensive optical networks).
  • Expertise with provisioning and commissioning of few of the following vendor equipment:
    • Juniper QFX switch, MX480 and MX960 and various Juniper HPE routing and switching platforms
    • Cisco: 1K, 540, 5501, 55A1, 9K etc
    • Nokia: 7250 IXRS/IXRE, 7750 SR, 7705 SAR-8/12 etc
    • Ciena: 5164
  • Familiarity with a few of routing switching management platforms like Nokia NRS , JUNOS, Nokia NSP and related management applications
  • Familiarity with VzW systems such as Fuse, CND, NSP, SEV1, SANE, TWAMP, BRIX is a benefit.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to support management, negotiation, and problem-solving functions of this role.
  • Excellent judgment and discretion; ability to handle multiple priorities simultaneously and meet deadlines in high pressure scenarios.
  • Must be able to work independently and productively with minimal supervision.
  • Self-motivated, excellent communication and written skills
  • Knowledge on optical transportation, OTN solution, system design, architecture, service delivery and operation is a plus.

 

Other Job Duties

The Solution Architect will be responsible for the deployment, implementation and migration of new and existing layer 2 and layer 3 network network elements, across multiple OEM vendor platforms and across a wide array of customers in the telecom, public and private sector. Our Solution Architect will be considered a subject matter expert and will support onsite and remote implementation and commissioning and migration of data networks as well as augmenting existing networks. Vendor experience needed for this role include a focus on Juniper, Cisco, Nokia and/or Ciena routing solutions. OEM Certifications including but not limited to are JNCIP-ENT, JNCIS-ENT, JNCIP-SP, JNCIS-SP, CCIE, Nokia SRA, Ciena CRS-P or CRS-C are beneficial for this role.   Our Solution Architect team is responsible for designing, building, and provide support in operating global, intelligent network infrastructure to meet the requirements of high availability, scalability, and high-performance. Other Job duties include the below. 

 

  • Ability to read and interpret technical product documentation, product change notifications, technical bulletins and other technical publications.
  • Follow method of procures to perform network equipment provisioning, commissioning and testing
  • Discover existing networks, configurations, topologies and technologies in order to develop network migration plan, method of procedures and scripts to perform network activation and migration.
  • Create device specific configuration scripts for network activation, testing scripts and applying to network devices.
  • Perform and lead field teams in network migrations, field testing and testing of applicable network protocols as needed per network design.
  • Communicate with internal and external customers, as well as assist other technicians with troubleshooting and knowledge sharing.
  • Communicate with internal and external customers to solve complex network issues.
  • Maintain and follow documented procedures and processes for upgrading, implementing, and removing facilities within a data network.
  • Perform maintenance window work for network augmentations and migrations on high-risk deployments including complex routed ring migrations and/or point to point circuit migrations involving router changes and upgrades
  • Provides system integration and support to various teams and customers to integrate with other network applications and systems.
  • Collaborate with team members to drive process improvement and operational excellence.

As of the date of this posting, a good faith estimate of the current pay scale for this position is:
$109.603 - $156,576
