SPM (Solution and Performance Management) Network Support Engineer

Job Description 

Service Operations is seeking a highly experienced Network Operations Engineer with advanced expertise in IP networking, optical transport technologies, and multi-vendor network environments. The ideal candidate possesses deep technical knowledge across routing, switching, transport, and network operations, along with a strong understanding of end-to-end network architectures. 

This role is responsible for providing technical leadership in troubleshooting, network validation, service assurance, automation initiatives, and customer support activities. The successful candidate will work directly with customers, NOCs, engineering teams, and third-party vendors to ensure network reliability, performance, and service availability. 

 

Key Responsibilities 

  • Provide advanced troubleshooting and root cause analysis for IP, optical, and transport network issues 

  •  Support critical customer escalations and provide technical leadership during major incidents 

  • Perform packet captures, protocol analysis, and detailed log investigations to identify network anomalies. 

  • Configure, validate, and support multi-vendor networking solutions including Nokia, Cisco, Juniper, Fujitsu, and other industry-leading platforms 

  • Support network implementation, migrations, expansions, and optimization activities 

  • Conduct software upgrades, firmware updates, and hardware refresh activities in both lab and production environments 

  • Develop, maintain, and execute automated test scripts and operational workflows 

  • Participate in network automation initiatives using modern scripting and automation frameworks 

  • Deliver exceptional customer experience through proactive communication and technical leadership. 

  • Work closely with Product Engineering, Software Development, NOC Operations, and third-party vendors 

  • Participate in disaster recovery, business continuity, and operational risk reduction initiatives 

  • Ability to work in a 24x7 operational support environment and participate in on-call escalation rotations 

 

Required Qualifications 

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, Network Engineering, or equivalent experience 

  • 5+ years of experience supporting enterprise, carrier, service provider, or data center networks 

  • Experience supporting optical transport technologies including DWDM, ROADM, OTN, and Carrier Ethernet solutions 

  • Hands-on experience with Nokia, Cisco, Juniper, Fujitsu, and other networking platforms 

  • Strong understanding of software lifecycle management, software maintenance, and upgrade methodologies 

  • Extensive experience with routing protocols including BGP, OSPF, IS-IS, and MPLS-based environments. 

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. 

  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and technical writing skills 

  • Cisco CCNA, Juniper JNCIA, Nokia NRFI 

 

Desired Qualifications 

  • Experience with network automation, orchestration, and Infrastructure-as-Code methodologies 

  • Cisco CCNP, Juniper JNCIS/P, Nokia NRFII and ONF 

  • Understanding of cybersecurity principles and network security best practices 

  • Working knowledge of Linux operating systems and virtualization technologies 

  • Proficiency in scripting and automation using Python, Go, JavaScript, or similar languages 

 

As of the date of this posting, a good faith estimate of the current pay scale for this position is:

•    $82,465 to $117,807

Placement in the range depends on several factors such as experience and skills and may change over time.  Additionally, this role may be eligible for an annual bonus, which is based on individual
