FUJITSU RESEARCH OF AMERICA, INC. (FRA) was established in 1993 as a wholly owned subsidiary of Fujitsu Laboratories Ltd., which is a wholly owned subsidiary of Fujitsu Ltd., focusing on contributing to Fujitsu's technology value chain.  FRA conducts advanced research in Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, System Components and Platform Innovations, Network and Trusted Systems Innovations, and Internet Service Innovations. 

 

We are seeking a highly motivated PhD intern to join our team working at the intersection of AI agent development and data science automation. This internship will focus on building intelligent agents that assist in end-to-end data science workflows and on developing robust, reproducible benchmarks to evaluate such agents.

 

You will collaborate closely with a team of AI researchers and engineers, contribute to system design and experimentation, and help shape the future of automated data science.

 

Job Description 

Candidate will work on:  

  • Design, prototype, and evaluate AI agents that automate data science tasks (e.g., data wrangling, visualization, modeling). 
  • Develop benchmark datasets, tasks, and metrics for evaluating AI agents in realistic data science scenarios. 
  • Conduct empirical studies and ablation experiments to validate design choices and performance. 
  • Contribute to building reproducible pipelines and documentation for agent evaluation. 
  • Publish findings internally or externally (e.g., open-source repositories / benchmarks, academic conferences). 

 

Qualifications 

  • Currently pursuing a PhD in Computer Science, Data Science, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, or a related field. 
  • Strong research background in one or more of the following: AI agents and autonomous systems, data science automation, benchmarking and evaluation methodology, LLMs.  
  • Proficient in Python and familiarity with open-source tools/libraries for data science. 
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills. 
  • Publication record in top AI/ML conferences 
  • Knowledge of LLM-based agents (e.g., LangChain, AutoGen) is a plus.  
  • Experience working with structured datasets and data-centric AI workflows is a plus.  

 

 

As we are looking for a remote position, the disclosed range estimate has not been adjusted for the applicable geographic differential associated with the location at which the position may be filled. Fujitsu aligns salaries to the specific geographic location in which the work is primarily performed. It is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role and compensation decisions are dependent on the circumstances of each situation. The pay range for this role takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to: specific skills, qualifications, experience, and comparison to other employees already in this role. The pay range for this position is estimated at $84,000 to $134,400 USD. Additionally, this role may be eligible for a short-term incentive based on company results and individual performance.
